Travel Alternatives to Avoid Delays during the Hot August Nights Event

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is asking motorists to consider alternate routes and avoid peak travel times when traveling on Interstate 80 (I-80) over the Sierra Nevada during the Hot August Nights event. Highway 70 may see increased traffic.

The Measure B forum held by the League of Women Voters July 29, at the Veterans Hall in Quincy was notable for a couple of things: its civility considering the contentious nature of the debate on this measure, and its lack - for the most part - of new questions or ideas.

Measure B proposes to cap the hospital tax at $50/$100,000 assessed value.
 

Plumas Bank reports second quarter earnings increase

    Plumas Bancorp, a bank holding company and the parent company of Plumas Bank, announced that second quarter earnings increased by $3.8 million from a net loss of $3.2 million for the second quarter period ending June 30, 2009, to net income of $576,000 during the same quarter this year.

    For the first six months of its fiscal year, Plumas Bancorp reported net income of $710,000, an increase of $5.2 million from a net loss of $4.5 million during the same period in 2009.

 

Hiker dies on Nelson Creek Trail

   Nicolas Solovieff, a 58-year-old Vallejo resident, died suddenly while hiking on the Nelson Creek Trail around noon Friday, July 23.

  Solovieff had been hiking with his brother and some friends on an annual trip when his companions realized that he was no longer with the group.
