Two large fires burning out of control in Lassen County

7/30/2010 Update:

Constantia Fire:  The fire is now 100 percent contained.  Most suppression resources have been released.   The few remaining crews will continue to patrol and rehab fire lines.  Some smoke may still be visible from the interior of the burned area. This will be the last update unless significant new fire activity occurs.

7/29/2010 Update:

Constantia Fire: The 1,369 acre Constantia Complex is 73 percent contained. Firefighters continue making progress at mopping-up 500 feet inside the fire perimeter. Dozer and hand lines are being repaired while damage to some dirt roads from fire traffic is also being repaired.

In Plumas and Lassen counties, people in need are benefiting from members of fraternal groups and other organizations who are joining together in efforts to pay it forward.

Two such groups are the Elks Lodge 2626 of Lake Almanor and Mountain Circle Family Services of Lassen and Plumas counties, as well as a newer location in the Reno area.
 

Water restored to Portola: passes water quality

After eight to 11 city water lines broke in several sections of Portola last Thursday and left many residents without water, city crews rushed between the breakages to restore water service, even though it meant breaks went unresolved at first and water continued to flow.

The Measure B, Cap the Tax, election is heating up, with emotions running high on both sides - understandable given that there is a lot to win ... and a lot to lose for everyone in Plumas Hospital District and beyond.

At one extreme, cap proponents say they fear a hospital tax that could skyrocket and they simply couldn't afford to pay it.
 

Senator plans mobile office hours in Quincy

A member of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s staff will hold mobile office hours Wednesday, July 28, from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 201 of the Plumas County Courthouse in Quincy.

Constituents seeking assistance with matters involving agencies such as the Veterans Administration, Social Security Administration or any other federal agency are encouraged to visit to seek individual casework assistance.
