Ice climbers tackle Frazier Falls
For the first time in 15 years, Frazier Falls, in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area outside Graeagle, has frozen enough to allow local climbers to ascend the 250-foot waterfall.
Meadow Valley resident John Sebold climbed the falls Jan. 2. An avid rock climber, this was his first ice-climbing experience.

Wandering gray wolf confirmed to be in Lassen County

Don’t look now, but Journey, the gray wolf formerly known as OR7, a lone male that traveled from Oregon into California last week, reportedly is now roaming in Lassen County.

Man dies in vehicle roll over

At approximately 5:47 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, emergency crews responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 147 that claimed the life of a Westwood man.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 54-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was traveling southbound on Highway 147 near the Hamilton Branch over crossing in his 1995 Honda Civic.

Trustees consider redistricting options
Feather River Community College District (FRCCD) trustees held a special meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10, to consider redistricting options and to approve personnel action to authorize an interim human resources director and to initiate recruitment of a new director.

Chad Herman has been a sergeant for many years and was stationed in several locations. At the end of June 2011 he received a permanent position and became the sergeant in charge of the Portola Substation. He oversees four deputies and covers calls and shifts and makes calls.
