Plumas Arts invites the public to savor the ‘Taste of Plumas’

The sixth annual Taste of Plumas is one of the most anticipated events of the season, says Plumas Arts. The tastings begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds.

The staff at Plumas Arts reports that there are more restaurants, caterers and food business participating this year than ever before. Event organizers report that many favorites will return and they are also pleased to welcome several that are new to the event.

USFS and school district team up for a unique educational partnership

When Union Pacific agreed in July 2008 to settle the Storrie Fire lawsuit for $102 million, it opened the door for a unique educational project.

The settlement earmarked $40 million each to Plumas and Lassen national forests for recreational, scenic, watershed, wildlife and timber restoration efforts, in addition to the $22 million bill for fire suppression.

School board approves early retirement package

The Plumas Unified School District governing board approved an early retirement package for its teachers March 8, but it was met with mixed reviews.

“We thought we were doing a good thing here,” said trustee Bob Tuerck, “but it hasn’t been received the way we thought it would.”

Highway 70 now open

Highway 70 is now open to two way traffic.


4:30 a.m.

A rock slide has closed Highway 70. The highway is closed between Jarbo Gap in Butte County to the Greenville Wye (Highway 70/89 junction). No information on when the highway will be opened is available. More information will be posted as soon as it is available.
