3/31/2010 - 5:30 a.m.

As of 5:30 a.m. all schools in the Plumas Unified School District will be open and starting on time for Wednesday, March 31, 2010. A quick check around the county shows 12 inches of snow fell overnight in the Portola area for a total of 16 inches. Quincy received 2-6 inches, while Chester only has one inch of new snow at this time, but the roads are slick. So far this storm has concentrated more on the south side of the county.

3/30/2010 - 6 a.m.

Wind gusts over 45 mph took place during the early Tuesday morning hours in some locations in Plumas County. There are still high wind warnings on many roads.

All schools in the Plumas Unified School District are open Tuesday and starting on schedule, but check road conditions at the Caltrans website (below) before traveling. Gusty winds, rain and snow are forecast, with the temperatures steadily falling during the day.

3/29/2010 - 4:30 p.m. update

Overturned big rig removed, roadway open to passenger vehicles only. High profile vehicles remain restricted from Johnstonville, junction US 395 and SR 36 to Nevada State Line due to high winds. Wind warning in effect.

3/29/2010 - 3 p.m.

Caltrans has closed route 395 at the agricultural inspection station on the California-Nevada border because of a big rig blown over near Doyle in Lassen County. A high wind advisory is also in effect from Portola to the 395 junction. A high wind advisory indicates that travel isn't recommended for trucks with permit loads, trailers or campers.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE WEST SLOPES OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...WESTERN PLUMAS COUNTY AND THE LASSEN PARK AREA.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: SIX TO 12 INCHES AROUND 5000 FEET AND ONE TO TWO FEET OVER HIGHER ELEVATIONS THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON. ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
