Acting County Counsel Brian Morris told county supervisors at a Tuesday, April 20, board meeting that it wasn’t the county’s job to make judgments on whether or not ballot language for another entity’s election was appropriate.
Morris told the public the county simply conducted the election and had “no discretion to review or change what has been directed to be placed on the ballot by the (Plumas) hospital district.”
High Desert State Prison Sergeant Todd Posch, who was scheduled for a possible plea Tuesday, April 20, has had his case continued one week to Tuesday, April 27.
Plumas County District Attorney Jeff Cunan reported after a Tuesday, March 30, pretrial conference the only offer made to the defendant was to plea as charged to two counts of filing a false police report.
Merchants and businesses in and around Portola are rolling up their sleeves and preparing for the 100th anniversary celebration of the first through passenger train operating over the Western Pacific Railway and into Portola. The date happens to coincide with the 28th annual Portola Railroad Days Festival Aug. 19 –22.

Plumas District Hospital filed two resolutions with the county clerk’s office Thursday, April 15, calling for a special election in which voters will decide whether to cap the hospital tax at $50 per $100,000 assessed value.
The resolutions, passed at the April 1 board meeting, appear to pave the way for the hospital district’s special election to be consolidated with the Nov. 2 General Election.
Candidates for District 5 supervisor, sheriff and county assessor have been invited to the forums being held by the League of Women Voters of Plumas County Monday, April 26, in Quincy and Thursday, April 29, in Portola. Forums will begin at 7 p.m. at the Quincy library meeting room and at the Portola Memorial Hall.
