Quincy elementary schools no longer on lockdown

4:30 p.m. Update

The PCSO has described the suspect in the Quincy school incident as a white male adult, approximately thirty years of age. The man reportedly had a medium build and was approximately six feet tall with a thin goatee, and was wearing all black. The PCSO said the suspect might be driving a dark colored mustang with tinted windows and a black "bra."

3:00 p.m. Update

Officers have been released from the Quincy schools incident, while others continue to investigate.

Increased patrols will continue around all schools in Quincy and outlying areas.

Marty Shower dies in crash

North arm resident Marty Shower, 53, died in a horrific head-on collision with a big rig Monday afternoon, April 19, on Highway 99, south of Yuba City, according to an article posted 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, at appealdemocrat.com.

Reno man drowns near Indian Falls

Breaking News A 27-year-old Reno resident, identified to KOLO TV as Derek Cahoon, drowned in the Indian Falls area Sunday, April 18. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office reported the young man was swept downstream while swimming and couldn’t be located by friends accompanying him.

Rodent chews through fiber line, disrupts 17,000 customers

Apparently sometimes it only takes one rodent to mess up an entire day.

That's exactly what happened around 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, when a Frontier Communications line was chewed through by a rodent, causing a phone and DSL outage for roughly 17,000 customers in Susanville, Chester and Alturas.
