Plumas County supervisors approve volunteer policy

Plumas County relies on the help of volunteers — at least 137 of them, according to a recent survey.

On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Board of Supervisors approved a policy designed to standardize the training and background checks for people who volunteer their time and services to the county.

Traffic control update for Highway 70 near Keddie

PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno with an update for the power pole replacement at the Spanish Creek Bridge, "PG&E crews have made very good progress and we expect to complete repairs to this line by about 9 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13, and restore power to the 20 customers impacted.  We were able to do this work by installing only two new poles.  PG&E crews numbering more than a dozen workers installed the new poles and wires."

This should eliminate the need for controlled traffic at the construction site.

Eastern Plumas Health Care tweaks language of city loan

Eastern Plumas Health Care’s board held a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 6, to discuss the $348,000 loan to EPHC from the city of Portola.

With board chairwoman Gail McGrath and Janie McBride absent, EPHC board members Larry Fites, Jay Skutt and Lucy Kreth constituted a quorum.

Skutt acknowledged the city “gave a quick response” to EPHC’s petition for financial support. Kreth said, “They stepped out to help us.” Help indeed.

Highway 70 update at Spanish Creek Bridge

"Because of the conditions of the hill stability, we are not going to repair or replace the pole which leaned after the earthslide.  Instead, PG&E is installing about five new wooden poles and about 2,000 feet of new powerlines east of the slide, where the ground is more stable."

Burn ban rescinded for Plumas and Lassen counties

Effective Friday, Oct. 7, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit (LMU) rescinded the suspension on all burning on state responsibility area lands within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas counties. LMU will maintain and staff an appropriate level of firefighting resources until the potential for wildfire decreases.
