  • Lucky dog: After eight harrowing days lost in the Plumas National Forest, a missing Shetland sheepdog was found. He was hungry, tired, cold, scratched, limping on bloody paws and missing some fur. But his tail was wagging.
  • On trial: The trial for a Quincy man accused of inflicting fatal injuries on a toddler in 2013 is scheduled to begin March 12.
  • Moving on: Just days after Plumas District Hospital announced that it couldn’t take over Quincy Nursing & Rehabilitation, several residents of the facility have found new homes.

Supervisor Meacher announces Assembly run

Longtime Plumas County supervisor Robert Meacher officially announced his candidacy for the 1st Assembly District of the California State Assembly Feb. 1. “We have been looking at this for several months,”  Meacher said, “and now is the time to make this race official.”

Candidates line up for recall election

Portola City Clerk Leslie Tigan certified nominations Jan. 31 for candidates seeking to fill Dan Wilson’s seat, should he be recalled, on the City Council.

A special municipal recall election has been set for April 10. Citizens will have a chance to retain or recall Wilson, as well as choose a replacement if the recall is successful. The election will be handled by mail.

7-11 committee takes comment from public, teachers at latest meeting

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the District Advisory Committee for Chester area schools, also called the “7-11” committee, met for the second of its six weekly meetings. On the agenda for the meeting were three orders of business directly linked with the committee’s charge to provide the Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) board of trustees with a recommendation regarding proposed school closures and consolidations.

EQSD engineer recommends districts collaborate for new treatment plant

Quincy’s two service districts aren’t likely to consolidate in the near future. But an engineer’s report recommended they join forces to tackle the valley’s wastewater treatment problem.

East Quincy Services District engineer Dan Bastian recommended the districts collaborate in an effort to build a new treatment plant.

Family suing county over inadequate A&D services

The family of a woman who died of a drug overdose is suing Plumas County for half a million dollars.

The lawsuit claims the county was negligent and failed to perform mandatory duties by not providing adequate alcohol and drug services.
