School district gets clean audit

Both the Plumas County Office of Education (PCOE) and Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) received clean opinions for the 2009-10 fiscal year, auditor Paul Messner of Messner & Hadley reported to board members Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Fairground blows a fuse, literally

Fair Manager John Steffanic recently told the Plumas County Board of Supervisors (BOS) the majority of the fairgrounds is currently without power or heat because of an electrical problem that could cost between $50,000 and $150,000 to fix.

“Monday morning we came in and we had full power in the administration building, half power in most of the other buildings,” Steffanic told the board during the public comment section of a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Earthquake strikes eastern Plumas County

An earthquake shook eastern Plumas County shortly after 11:00 Sunday night.  The magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported to be 5 miles north of Portola near Lake Davis according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

So far there are no reports of damage.

DA's murder complaint details officer's death

Tuesday, Jan. 11 - On Monday, Jan. 10, Lassen County District Attorney Bob Burns filed two complaints of premeditated murder and conspiracyagainst Robin James Glen and Joanna(Beckett) McElrath in the Lassen County Superior Court. The complaint also outlines how the alleged murder of Susanville Police Officer Robert McElrath took place.

According to the complaint, on or about Saturday, Jan. 1, James, 46, provided Joanna McElrath, 36, with prescription narcotic medications that were intended to be given to the victim without his knowledge.
