Future of Beckwourth-Genesee Road subject of public meeting
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, a townhall meeting was held at the Portola library to discuss an environmental impact study that had been done on a proposed project affecting a 9-1/2-mile stretch of California Forest Highway 177, the Beckwourth-Genesee Road, and to get public feedback.
This project was initially requested by Plumas County in 2004.

Yellow Creek restoration planned despite concern about impacts on trout

Yellow Creek and the Humbug Valley are to be the newest recipients of the pond-and-plug restoration treatment, possibly as soon as this fall.
Plumas County Planning Director Randy Wilson signed a negative declaration after reviewing project plans and public comments in January.

Man charged in car-chase killing to stand trial Sept. 10
A trial date has been set for a Reno man charged with shooting a 20-year-old Susanville man to death after a car chase last summer.
A jury trial for Gregory Chad Wallin-Reed is scheduled to begin Sept. 10 in Plumas County Superior Court in Quincy.

Board OKs teacher layoffs
Plumas Unified School District board members voted unanimously Wednesday, Feb. 22, to lay off 32.5 full-time equivalent faculty positions in preparation for possible school closures and consolidations.
Bob Tuerck, of Quincy, took a long, hard pause before casting the first “aye” in the roll call vote.

Small town radio attracts international audience
On May 12, 2011, Plumas Community Radio, KQNY 91.9 FM, broke several years of radio silence in Plumas County when it began broadcasting from a tiny office on Main Street in Quincy.
Less than a year later, via live streaming on kqny.org, out-of-towners have joined local listeners
