First officer sworn in at new courthouse

Amanda Barnes-Turner was sworn in Nov. 12, as the newest member of Plumas County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit at the new Plumas-Sierra Courthouse in Portola. It is the first swearing-in at the new building since it opened a year ago.

In a short ceremony with Sheriff Greg Hagwood presiding, Election Coordinator and Deputy Clerk-Recorder Marcy DeMartile swore the new reserve officer in.

New National Geographic series filmed locally

From the producers of “Deadliest Catch,” “Axe Men” and  “Ice Road Truckers” comes another action-packed series, “Wild Justice.”

The premier episode, “Thrill Killers,” airs on the National Geographic Channel Sunday, Nov. 28, at 9 p.m., followed by a second episode, “Marijuana Mountains,” at 10 p.m.

Earthquake hits Plumas County

An earthquake has rattled a remote area of Plumas County according to the Associated Press, but authorities say there are no reports of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8 hit around 12:09 p.m. Sunday about two miles southwest of the community of Cromberg, or about 40 miles south of Susanville.
