The fire season of 2002 has already started and looks to be a very busy one for the firefighters of the U.S. Forest Service. Among the initial group of firefighters called on when a wildland fire starts is a helitack team. Chester Airport is the home base of the Chester Helitack team of the Lassen National Forest.
From June 15 through Oct. 15, and longer if the fire season continues, 14 dedicated and talented young men and women with an average of three to four years experience in fighting wildland fires, make up this team..
