75 YEARS AGO.............1937

A new $4,000 stream-lined school bus has been ordered from a San Francisco manufacturer for the Plumas School District’s Graeagle to Portola route. It will be equipped with heaters and a transmission radio. The present bus will be transferred to the Sierra Valley to Portola route.

A Division of Highways work order was received by the state highway maintenance department of Plumas County this week calling for the center line striping of the new Feather River Highway to be started Monday.

 

50 YEARS AGO............1962

The ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Quincy is requesting the names of all Plumas County servicemen who died or are missing in action during WW I, WW II or the Korean War to be included on a plaque to be erected at the Plumas County courthouse. It is to replace the typewritten list that is displayed inside the courthouse.

 

25 YEARS AGO.............1987

Plumas Unified School District school enrollment has increased on opening day of school since last years figures. Total district enrollment was 3,539 compared to 3,464 a year ago. In the Plumas high schools this year enrollment figures total 1,593 compared to 1,575 last year. Elementary school figures total 1,946 this year compared to 1,889 last year.

Taking a stand against promoting alcohol and tobacco, Plumas County high school administrators have banned tee shirts and jackets displaying such items this school year.

 

10 YEARS AGO..........2002

The California Department of Fish and Game has caught some 12,200 northern pike at Lake Davis and they are dedicated to address the pike problem, they assured the Plumas County Board of Supervisors and the City of Portola this week.

This week is the anniversary of 9/11, noting the attacks that took place at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia and the airline high-jacking in Pennsylvania in 2001. A special memorial “We Remember” red, white and blue flag insert is distributed in all Feather Publishing newspapers for residents and businesses to display in their windows.
