The first annual Wounded Warrior Bass Tournament took place last weekend, Sept. 22 – 23, at Lake Almanor. Boaters launched from the public launching area near Prattville.
Ten teams showed up Saturday for a day of fishing on the lake. The competitors started fishing at 8 a.m. Saturday and weighed in at 3 p.m.
A barbecue was thrown with all donations going to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit that supports wounded veterans. The organization provides funds for medical care and rehabilitation for soldiers in need.
The Feather River and Susanville chapters of the Blue Star Moms showed up to help. Blue Star Moms is a nonprofit that supports military personnel and promotes patriotism. Members are mothers who have or had children serving in the military. The Blue Star Moms provided side dishes for the barbecue.
The tournament sold T-shirts and held a silent auction. Almost everyone in attendance won a prize from a drawing as well.
Veterans took to the lake Sunday, accompanied by professional sport fishers.
