Micheline Miglis has accepted a contract to serve as Superintendent of Plumas Unified School District.

Miglis was the assistant superintendent of educational services at Silver Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) since July 2010.

According to PUSD governing board president Christopher Russell, Miglis has been successful in the K-12 education system, at the classified and certificated management level.

“Micheline has a collaborative, natural leadership style, and has been recognized for intentional use of data in making informed decisions district wide,” Russell said in a Sept. 21 message to school district staff members.

Russell said Miglis would start work Oct. 11, pending governing board approval at the Oct. 10 meeting in Portola.

The SVUSD, which covers 3,200 square miles, is located in the Mojave Desert in Southern California.

The district serves 2,593 students, including one regional high school with 533 students.

About 65 percent of the students’ families are military or military-related. Many of the other families work in the fields of agriculture, railroading, trucking and local businesses.

I wish Ms.Miglis well in this important new assignment. It is a critical time for the students and educators in Plumas. Her success will be their success and she certainly cannot do it alone. The time is now for people to support the schools in actions and deeds.

I also wish Ms Miglis well. If Prop 30 is passed she will have the resources necessary to have a shot at fixing PUSD. However, if it is not passed, she will have to make huge cuts and will be unpopular right off the bat. My niece has 34 students in her class at QES. Schools need help, pass Prop 30.
