The Chips Fire meeting and tour scheduled for Saturday, October 27, on the Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest has been cancelled.

Representatives on the district report the cancellation is necessary due to weather and current conditions in the field. The district plans to reschedule the event, and the public will be informed of the new date.

The public meeting and tour are for the purpose of reviewing the impacts of the Chips Fire to the public lands within the Forest boundaries and discussing possible activities and timeframes.

Lassen National Forest to host Chips Fire meeting, tour

  The Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest will be hosting a public meeting and interpretive tour Saturday, Oct. 27.

  Representatives of the ranger district will be reviewing the impact of the Chips Fire on public lands within the forest boundaries. Resource specialists will be available to discuss possible restoration activities and timeframes.

  One of the management activities the district anticipates is the removal of danger trees along roads within the Chips Fire perimeter.

  As part of the meeting, participants will discuss what is considered a “danger tree” in the aftermath of the fire. A field tour is being offered to review how the danger tree marking guidelines are being applied along the roads within the Chips Fire perimeter.

  The meeting will be held in the Almanor Ranger District Office at 900 E. Highway 36 in Chester, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the conference room and from noon to 4 in the field.

  Dress in layers for possible cool weather, bring water and lunch, and wear foot gear to walk on uneven terrain.

  Tour participants will meet at the Almanor Ranger District office located across from the airport. Some travel will occur on gravel roads so SUVs or high-clearance vehicles will be necessary as will carpooling to keep the number of vehicles to a minimum.
