The Plumas County Sheriff is asking anyone with information about a recent break-in and theft at the Quincy Sport Shooting Association to call 283-6363.

  According to information provided by Investigations Sergeant Steve Peay and the gun club, someone stole four guns in the late evening of Oct. 19, or early on Oct. 20.

  The 12-gauge shotguns were used by the local junior trap team.

  “It’s so heartbreaking to see vandals constantly destroying the club facilities and now this; thieves stealing these guns just days before the kids were to compete in their final event of the year,” said the team’s coach, Larry Lawson.

  The guns were stolen one week prior to the Quincy Sport Association’s club championships, according to Lawson.

  A reward of $2,500 has been offered by local merchants, private citizens, and members of CalGuns.net.

  According to Lawson, thieves gained entry into the storage shed by cutting through both locks on the double doors.

  After entering, they dragged the safe containing the guns outside to a waiting vehicle. From there, they drove to the other side of the parking lot to a stand of trees where they pried open the safe, thereby destroying it.

  The thieves stole the four guns and the club’s money box, which contained about $11. Apparently in their rush to leave the scene, they left two shorter-stock guns in the safe.

  Three Remington 870 12-guage pump-action shotguns and a Remington Spartan 12-guage shotgun were stolen.

  The stolen guns and property damage was estimated to be $1,600.

I'm assuming the reward is more than the value of the guns so they can better catch these losers and get them off the streets and in jail. Hope they catch them soon!
