County facility manager resigns his position

After five years as Plumas County facility and airports director, Joe Wilson is moving on — to Chico and a new position with Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Wilson’s last day on the job will be Dec. 7.

“Quincy is my home, and my family and I will truly miss this community,” Wilson wrote in the letter that he sent to the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 25.

But during the supervisors’ Nov. 6 meeting when they were scheduled to accept his resignation, they made it clear that they didn’t want to see him go.

“This is probably a good day for you, but a sad day for us,” Supervisor Robert Meacher told Wilson.

“I was so bummed to hear the news,” Supervisor Lori Simpson added. “You have been a pleasure to work with.”

Supervisor Sherrie Thrall asked with a smile, “If we refuse to accept it (his letter of resignation) what would happen?”

Wilson began working for the county in 2006 and was promoted a year later to be the director of both facilities and airport operations. The following year, he took over capital improvements for the airports, which included overseeing grants and construction.

During his six years with the county, he assumed additional responsibilities while his department’s budget and staff shrank.

Wilson told the board that he would work closely with whomever is selected to replace him to “ensure that there is a seamless transition.” Human resources will now begin the recruitment process.

Though he will no longer be working for the county, Wilson will be working with the county in his new position as the governmental relations representative for PG&E. He will be the liaison for several Northern California counties including Plumas.

Wilson said during an interview following the meeting, that “it is a sad thing to leave the county,” but he is excited about this new professional opportunity.

Congratulations Joe! I know you will be missed. Thank you for all the help you gave me during my 2007 tenure in Plumas County with CalFire and this summer's job with Quincy Fire...you saved me many hours of time and the fire prevention funds of those departments.
