The Greenville girls’ basketball team took on the Champion Christian Mustangs on Dec. 17, 2012. The Indians performed exceptionally well to take down the Mustangs 32-20.
The game started out fairly even, with the Indians keeping a small lead through the third quarter. By the start of the final quarter the Indians were only ahead 18-14.
The Indians fought hard to extend their lead in the fourth quarter and finished off the Mustangs by outscoring them 14-6.
Brianna Ray led the Indians with her speed and accuracy. McKeena Cook and Hannah Allen contributed greatly to the Indians’ clinch as well.
The girls’ basketball team took some time off during the holidays, but will be back on the court Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in a home game against Redding Adventist.
Fall River 51, Portola 36
The Portola Tigers’ girls basketball team has played well this season with a 6-3 record at time of print. The Tigers’ excellence could not match up to the Fall River Bulldogs (7-4), however, as Fall River toppled Portola 51-36 on Dec. 20, 2012.
Fall River took an early lead with a score of 17-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs continued making their shots to add 16 points to the Tigers’ 11 in the second quarter. Fall River went into the half with a 33-22 lead.
The Tigers fought back and outscored Fall River 12-10 in the third quarter. The Bulldogs retaliated by nearly shutting the Tigers down in the fourth quarter to beat Portola 51-36.
After taking a break from playing, the Portola girls’ team will return to the court Jan. 11 at Williams High School. The Tigers have a long stretch of away games until their next home game Jan. 31 against North Tahoe.
