There will be another new face on The Portola City Council for the next two years. At a special meeting held by the council on Jan. 30, long-time resident of the city, Patricia Morton was unanimously appointed the position.
Morton was one of four candidates vying for the office. She also was the only candidate who had not held a council position before.
However, council members said it was Morton’s lack of experience that made her a prime candidate.
“It is clear by the last election the community is looking for new individuals,” said Council Member Juliana Mark.
Three previous incumbents challenged Morton: Larry Douglas, Mike Rush and William Weaver. However, Weaver did not appear at the forum.
Each candidate was given eight predetermined questions that the council came up with at another special meeting on the morning of Jan. 28. They all had time to prepare their answers, and present them to the council and public on Wednesday night.
