Winter has released its grip on Bucks Lake, which is free of ice in this April 7 photo. Businesses near the lake have opened already and the road is plowed all the way to the dam.

Bucks Lake Lodge’s bar and restaurant are open Thursday thru Monday from 11 a.m. to midnight. The Lakeshore Resort is also open for business Wednesday thru Sunday, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for lunch and dinner, and 8 p.m. on the weekends. Coffee is available to fishermen and women at 9 a.m. and the boat ramp is open.

Haskins Valley Inn operates a store and deli from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week. All three businesses have lodging available. Additionally, the Oroville-Quincy Highway is open to through traffic.

The lake’s level is more than 2 feet lower this year compared to the same time last year and it contains nearly 4,000 acre-feet less of water. Photo by Laura Beaton
