75 YEARS AGO.........1938

    Samuel Lear, a member of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors for the past eight years died this week. He was from San Francisco prior to relocating to Caribou in the Feather River canyon where he was the maintenance foreman with the Great Western Power Company from 1920 to 1930. He was elected supervisor from Seneca Township in 1930, taking office in 1931.

50 YEARS AGO.............1963

    The Walton family, operators of Walton's Grizzly Lodge Camp, located off of Highway 40A north of Portola, are scheduled to appear on television station KOLO in Reno Thursday night and will show their motion picture “Camping in the Feather River”.

    Plumas County Sanitation Bill Cullen traveled to all points of Plumas this week removing all cans of questionable tainted cans of tuna fish from grocery shelves.

25 YEARS AGO.............1988

    Five cars of a 64-car Union Pacific Railroad freight train derailed with two of the cars crashing down the slope in the Feather River canyon. Flour spilled from one derailed boxcar into the North Fork of the Feather River causing much concern for the Department of Fish & Game.

10 YEARS AGO...........2003

    The first of four public forums regarding the proposed recall of Plumas County Board of Supervisor Robert Meacher was held in Greenville this week.

    Jim Young, a retired Feather River College history instructor is the author of a new book: “The History of the Feather River Region” and it is said to be the most comprehensive book of Plumas County history since Farris & Smith produced their history book in 1882.
