Quincy Little League gears up

Quincy Little League is ready to start its season, with opening day set to take place April 27 at Rotary Field in East Quincy. The League spans ages 4 to 15, divided into 15 teams according to age.

To start the season, a parade of teams will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the field. The first game will take place at 11 a.m. with the two Quincy minor boys’ teams (ages 8 – 11) squaring off.

Also at 11 a.m., the first farm team (ages 6 – 7) game will take place with another immediately following at noon. The major boys (ages 11 – 12) will play at 2:30 p.m. against the major boys from Portola.

Throughout the day the second annual Wayne Tweedle Memorial Bat-A-Thon will swing into full action. Each player participating will have the chance to swing the bat three times to raise money for the league. The bat-a-thon is the only fundraiser throughout the year the players themselves are allowed to participate in.

A concession stand will be available for parents and spectators alike. Tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs will be grilled up on location. Cupcakes from QT’s Bakery will also be available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the players’ uniforms and equipment. All players will receive a free hot dog.

Those interested in more information can contact Holly Buus at 283-1522 or Michelle Morrison at 283-3322.
