Bowling supports therapeutic riding program
The annual Horses Unlimited Bowl-a-Thon is back and set to take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at La Sierra Lanes in Quincy. The annual event is one of the nonprofit’s largest fundraisers.
Horses Unlimited Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding to individuals who are challenged with a disability. The organization emphasizes not only the physical benefits of riding, but also the development of the relationship between the rider and the horse.
The program extends beyond Plumas County to Lassen and Sierra counties, though funds raised at the Bowl-a-Thon will go strictly to the Plumas program. In specific, funds will go toward providing equipment and supplies for the therapeutic riding program.
“Last year’s Bowl-a-Thon was great,” said event organizer Lauren Sternberg. “It was a huge success. We raised more than $1,000 with just 11 bowlers.”
Teams and individual bowlers are welcome, as are sponsorships for those in the program. A $25 minimum donation is suggested to bowl in the Bowl-a-Thon. Horses Unlimited will provide refreshments and prizes will be awarded immediately following the games.
Those interested in participating or sponsoring are invited to contact Sternberg at 836-2795.
