Summerfest 2013 at White Sulphur Springs Ranch draws closer

Feather Publishing

The Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council has held fundraising events for the last four years but this one, called “Summerfest,” promises to be the best of all. Formed in 2008 as a nonprofit organization to preserve the cultural heritage of the Mohawk Valley, the council has purchased the White Sulphur Springs Ranch property and is in the process of improving it for eventual use by the public.

This historic spot came into existence in 1858, largely because of the presence of natural hot springs. It was an important stagecoach stop on the dirt road between Truckee and Quincy and has long been a favorite recreation spot for Plumas County residents.

This, the fifth annual fundraising event, will be held June 30 at White Sulphur Springs Ranch, 2200 Highway 89, just south of the junction of County Road A15. Hours are 4 to 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 3. The cost per person is $40.

Tours of the partially restored house will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. A hearty ranch barbecue dinner is included and entertainers Juni Fisher and Dave Stamey will provide fine Western music and showmanship.

A no-host bar will offer beer, wine and soft drinks. There will also be both live and silent auctions to complete this evening of fun and entertainment. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs.

Advance ticket sales are encouraged to allow food planning. Tickets are available in Graeagle, at Eco Centric, Graeagle Mercantile, Red House Art and the Outpost; in Quincy at the Plumas County Museum; and in Blairsden at the Eastern Plumas Chamber of Commerce.

Call for will call tickets at 836-2334. In the event of rain the festivities will move to “The Barn” in Blairsden.

Call 836-2334 for additional information. The Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council website,, includes details on the history of the area, a description of the entertainers and the goals of the council.
