Barn quilt workshop at Main Street Artists’ gallery

Feather Publishing

On Sunday, July 28, a workshop will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. to guide participants through the steps of making their own barn quilt at Main Street Artists’ gallery, 436 W. Main St. in Quincy.

Marc Ellen Hamel will lead the workshop; she is a member artist in this cooperative gallery. Hamel has been making barn quilts since three summers ago and has made many in various sizes.

This workshop will provide all the necessary supplies, a supply list and where to find them, and clear step-by-step instructions. All students need to bring is a sense of creativity and clothes that they don’t mind getting paint on.

Cost for the workshop is $30 per person. Participants will leave the workshop with their own 12-by12-inch barn quilt. As Hamel says: “Anyone with the time and inclination can make a barn quilt. You just need the right supplies and to do a bit of pre-planning,” which is what the workshop will provide.

Hamel will also share many tips she has learned during the process of making her barn quilts and through conversations she has had with other barn quilt makers.

The workshop is limited to 10 participants, so anyone interested should call the Main Street Artists’ gallery at 283-1909 to be put on the list. If there is great interest, another workshop will be arranged for the near future.

Those with specific questions about the workshop may contact Hamel at 415-202-4315.
