Tahoe fire sends smoke into Plumas and Lassen Counties

The American Fire on the Tahoe National Forest is sending smoke north into Plumas and Lassen Counties.

The 1,200 acre fire is burning in the American River Canyon 17 miles northeast of Foresthill.  The fire is burning heavy brush and timber in very steep inaccessible terrain.

The Forest Service is attacking the fire with a large contingency of ground and air resources including engines, dozers, hand crews, airtankers, helicopters and smoke jumpers.

Because of the heavy fuels and steep terrain the fire is expected to continuing burning for several days so the smoke in our area will likely persist for the foreseeable future.
