Raid nets 8,100 pot plants near Bucks Lake

Feather Publishing

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office found 8,100 marijuana plants during a coordinated raid near Bucks Lake last week.

According to a report from Investigations Sergeant Steve Peay, the plants were recovered at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, near Palmetto in the Plumas National Forest.

Peay said a raid team and about 20 support staff descended on the “known garden” located in rugged terrain.

The recovered plants were reportedly immature, and Peay said the crop appeared to have been abandoned by the growers.

“The characteristics of this garden were consistent with the gardens of large Mexican drug-trafficking organizations,” Peay reported in a press release. “After a search of the marijuana garden, it was apparent the suspect(s) had abandoned it.”

The sheriff’s office suspected the garden was abandoned because the plants had not reached maturity by the end of the growing season. The report noted that the case was still under investigation.

Peay said the raid was a joint effort by the sheriff’s office, the U.S. Forest Service, Camp Team and PJ Helicopters from Red Bluff.

He said the sheriff’s office wanted to remind community members that they are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the sheriff or local law enforcement.
