Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister holds a solar light as he delivers opening statements to the jury Tuesday morning in the murder trial of Gregory Chad Wallin-Reed. Wallin-Reed is charged with shooting and killing 20-year-old Susanville resident Rory McGuire with an assault weapon in July 2011 near Antelope Lake.
The shooting followed an 8-mile car chase after Wallin-Reed saw McGuire and five other men taking solar lights from his property. Wallin-Reed claimed he was returning fire that came from someone in McGuire’s car. The jury is expected to hear testimony for about three weeks. The trial, which has gained national attention, is being held in Plumas County Superior Court in Quincy. Photo by Dan McDonald
