The entire town of Johnsville was threatened with destruction when fire broke out at the Canyon Inn. With water pressure extremely low due to the restoration of the town water system, the fire had to be fought with wet sacks and dirt.
50 YEARS AGO..........1963
The dam spillway project to raise the level of Lake Almanor involves moving 80,000 cubic yards of earth and 275,000 tons of rock fill. Lake Almanor holds 650,000 acre feet of water and will hold 1,035,000 acre feet of water upon completion of the entire dam project.
25 YEARS AGO..........1988
Enrollment of some Plumas County schools increased on opening day this year. Kindergarten classes raised from 265 last year to 284 this year. Elementary school classes raised from 1964 last year to 1889 this year. High school classes, however, showed a decline from 1593 students last year to 1450 students this year.

The USDA will present Almanor Residential, Inc, $7.2 million for the Wildwood Senior Center expansion project in Chester.
With 53,000 square feet and a $12 million price tag, the new Plumas County courthouse annex building located near the Feather River College campus in Quincy, will be the biggest public works project in Plumas County history. The foundation of the new two-story building is expected to be poured this fall upon opening bids next week.
