These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Plumas District Hospital will hold its annual fall low-cost health screening during the second week of October. The low-cost health screening will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 7, and running through Thursday, Oct. 10, in the North Fork Family Medicine Building on Valley View Road behind the hospital.

No appointments are necessary; however, participants are encouraged to come on the day assigned to the first letter of their last name: A through F on Monday; G through M on Tuesday; N through S on Wednesday; and T through Z on Thursday. Participants must not eat for 12 hours prior to the blood draw, but may continue their normal intake of water and take any medication as usual.

Testing includes comprehensive metabolic panel; thyroid screening; complete blood count; cholesterol; triglycerides; and HDL, direct LDL and ratio. Cost is $50, payable by cash or check.

For an additional charge, bone density and prostate cancer screenings will be available. Bone density screening appointments may be scheduled at the time of the health screening.
