Both Feather River College soccer teams fell to Lassen on Oct. 25. The men’s team lost 3-2 while the women were shut out 3-0.

The Eagles men dropped two slots in the Golden Valley Conference due to the loss. Lassen now leads the conference, followed by Shasta. FRC sits third with a 3-2-1 conference record and 9-5-3 overall.

The women’s team, though the loss was a deafening blow, still sits at the top of the conference. The lady Eagles are 6-1-1 in conference and 12-3-2 overall.

In the men’s game, both teams played fairly equally throughout the game. Lassen got two past FRC goalkeeper Adam Williams in the first half, but FRC matched it with two goals of its own.

Lassen was ahead 1-0 until Jack Wainwright knocked the ball in the net off an assist by Seon Ripley. Towards the end of the half Ripley scored one himself with Oliver Hitch and Tom Cowling assisting.

The fatal blow to the Eagles came in the second half. Both teams were at a standstill nearly the entire half, until Lassen kicked a soft ball at Williams. Williams went to catch the ball, which bounced off him and landed right in front of one of Lassen’s players. Lassen kicked it in for the pinning goal.

“The team played well, but our goalkeeper just made three bad errors,” commented FRC coach Don Williams about the men’s game.

The women’s game was no better. The team that was dominating the state fell apart against the Cougars. The previous two times FRC played Lassen, FRC’s women won 1-0 and 3-2.

“There is no explanation as to why we lost,” Williams said about the women’s game. “We just didn’t pass well and couldn’t connect. Theoretically, we should have won.”
