Notice to Chester PUD water customers
THIS IS NOT A HEALTH ALERT
The Chester Public Utility District is in the process of disinfecting the water distribution system. Routine bacteriological samples have shown the presence of coliform bacteria in the system. Total coliform bacteria are common in the environment and are not generally harmful themselves. The chlorination process will clean out this contamination. THIS IS NOT A HEALTH ALERT.
The District will introduce chlorine in to the water system Tuesday morning, 11/05/2013. Customers may notice a smell or taste of chlorine for the next 48 hours. Again, this is not a health threat. Customers concerned about drinking tap water with chlorine please contact the District at 530-258-2171. People with tropical fish should not add to or replace tank water for the next 48 hours or until tests show that chlorine level to be below trace amounts. The chlorine level dose will be 1.0 parts per million or less during this process. The District will continue testing water samples from the distribution system until the results meet state health standards.
