The Feather River College men’s soccer team scored goal after goal Nov. 5 to beat Butte a whopping 11-1. The week prior, the Eagles beat Butte 5-0, but stepped it up a notch last week.

On Nov. 8, the team traveled to Shasta where it lost 4-1. The loss dropped FRC’s conference record to 5-3-1 with an 11-6-3 overall record.

The 11 goals against Butte were split up among six players. Jack Wainwright and Joe O’Neill both got hat tricks with three goals apiece.

Emmanuel Boateng scored two for the Eagles, while Edward Foy, Jordan Gill and John Foote each scored one. Seon Ripley led Feather River in assists, with four.

Reece Eddy and Adam Williams split time keeping the goal. Both goalies got two saves apiece. Williams let one slip by in the second half.

In the game against Shasta, Foote was the only FRC player to score a goal. O’Neill assisted Foote. The last time the two teams squared off, the final score was tied 1-1.

FRC’s men finished their regular season in Shasta. At one point the team was ranked first in the region and second in the state in a poll by community college soccer coaches. In the last poll, FRC was ranked eighth in the region and was not included in the state’s top 15.

“It’s been a roller coaster of a season. We’ve definitely had highs and lows,” said FRC’s coach, Don Williams. “Lately, we haven’t been playing poorly, but we just haven’t been getting the results we wanted. That’s how it is sometimes.”

The California Community College Athletic Association will hold the playoff-seeding meeting Nov. 18. As of now, Lassen leads the Golden Valley Conference.

Lassen, however, violated some CCCAA rules last season and is banned from playing in the post-season. At the time of writing Lassen is appealing the decision, but if the appeal is denied then FRC will have a good chance of making the playoffs.
