These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Power outage planned for portions of Lake Almanor

Power Outage Will Impact 634 PG&E Electric Customers so
Crews Can Safely Install New Equipment in Substation

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has scheduled a planned power outage for a portion of Lake Almanor late Saturday, November 23, lasting into early the next morning while crews complete substation improvements. Not all customers on the Lake Almanor Peninsula will be impacted, just those who have previously received individual letters informing them of the outage.

The outage is necessary so PG&E crews can safely install animal abatement guards at a substation in Hamilton Branch. The outage will begin at 11 p.m. and last until about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. PG&E has mailed letters to the 634 affected customers to inform them of the outage.

“We apologize for the inconvenience that this planned outage will have on our customers in Lake Almanor, but we are confident that the substation improvement will lead to fewer outages,” said Alton Thurston, electric superintendent of PG&E’s North Valley Division.

The animal guards are designed to keep birds and animals off of substation equipment, which can lead to power outages.

PG&E continues to make significant progress in electric reliability that benefits customers throughout its service area. In the third quarter of 2013, PG&E delivered its best service reliability performance ever—with customers experiencing the fewest outages and the fastest restoration in the company’s history.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG), is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric utilities in the United States. Based in San Francisco, with over 20,000 employees, the company delivers some of the nation’s cleanest energy to 15 million people in Northern and Central California.
