These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Three’s a crowd; local couple welcomes triplets

Plumas County will soon have three new residents: identical triplets. On Nov. 22, Meadow Valley’s Tom and Hannah Hepner welcomed their three new daughters into the world at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento.

Abby, Brin and Laurel were all born 33 weeks into Hannah’s pregnancy. The babies weighed between 3 and 4 pounds each and their current progress is excellent. The “spontaneous” triplets were conceived without the use of fertility drugs, which is extremely rare.

The news of the rare birth quickly captured the attention of the world. Media outlets from all around the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand picked up the story and ran with it. The story of the Hepner triplets reached the No. 1 spot on Yahoo’s list of top 10 trending topics Dec. 4.

The new family looks forward to coming home to Plumas County, but Tom and Hannah are waiting for the triplets to gain weight, maintain their body temperature and eat properly.

In the Dec. 18 edition of the newspaper, watch for a full feature story of the Hepner triplets on our Regional Page.
