Tourism, Recreation and Hospitality Council meet
With more than 120 countywide sponsors, a core group of 12 impassioned people gathered at Moon’s on Thursday, Feb. 27, to discuss website analytics, upcoming events and opportunities to market Plumas County to the world.
The website, Plumascounty.org, is flourishing under the management of the group while being maintained by Karen Moritz.
Topping the agenda each month are the analytics of the site. This is the most powerful tool, as well as the most cost-efficient way the group is currently marketing Plumas County. A brief overview of analytics indicates the website is averaging more than 480 unique visits to the site per day.
Sponsorship of the site is $100 per year, which is about 27 cents a day. Referrals indicate the website’s main source of traffic is from keyword searches, social media and local businesses that have a link to the site on their own pages.
The tourism council is an open group; all are welcome to join in meetings and to become sponsors. Sponsorship allows members to receive a more prominent presence on the website.

The group has said “collaboration is the name of the game.” Upcoming activities include a strategic planning session with invitations going out to chambers, merchant groups and other organizations promoting tourism and travel to Plumas County.
