 100 YEARS AGO....1909
    Estray notice: Strayed or stolen from the pasture of Ira Short at Greenville--a sorrel horse, seven years old weighing about 1050 pounds. The finder will be suitably rewarded or charged, as case may be.
    The first through train on the line of the Western Pacific Railroad passed through American Valley east bound for Salt Lake City. Starting from Oakland, the train consisted of the locomotive, baggage car, dining car and sleeper. It was an official inspection trip for company employees.

75 YEARS AGO….1934
    A new enterprise makes its debut in Portola this week with the Portola news edition of the Feather River Bulletin with the intention to give the people and businesses of Portola modern newspaper service. The office is at 107 Commercial Street. Subscriptions are $1.00 for a six month special introductory rate.

50 YEARS AGO….1959
    Dry and fair weather facilitates progress on Plumas County’s new half-million dollar nursing home in Quincy. Outdoor construction is far enough along that indoor work can be continued all winter. The home which began construction in April will accommodate 31 patients. (Note: It was located where the Plumas County Annex is now, near Feather River College.)
    An open house will be held this week for the new telephone exchange building in Westwood by California-Pacific Utilities Company.

30 YEARS AGO….1979
    Greenville realtor Dixie Reed has been elected foreman of the 1978-1981 Plumas County Grand Jury.
    So Feather River College has a brand new football field and all-weather track, recently completed. But why? Many ask since the Golden Eagles don’t field a team in either sport.
