Longtime Quincy resident and business owner John Breaux, EA just passed an extensive 8-hour 3-part exam to earn certification as an enrolled agent. John recently became affiliated with Ken Barnard and Associates about the same time they purchased John DeSelle’s accounting practice. As an enrolled agent, John now has the IRS designation of a tax expert with all the IRS’s privileges. As a member of the California Association of Enrolled Agents, John says he will have to complete 30 hours of continuing education courses every year.
Crescent country opens Mar. 15
Crescent Country in Crescent Mills reopens for the season Monday, March 15. It’s a treasure chest filled with one of a kind collectibles, antiques, home and garden accessories, baby gift, candles and more, and we have it on good authority that Barbara and Lisa made lots of exciting purchases during their off season to further enhance the shopping experience.
Cuccia’s opens for season
Famous for its pizza and pastas, Cuccia’s Italian Restaurant in Graeagle has reopened for the season after a short winter break for owners Terry Moore and Gina and Lila Prince.
Going out of business sale
Martin and Rebecca Loretz have decided to close their Graeagle business, Loretz Video. Beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend (or until it’s gone) they are selling off all inventory. Their customers get first shot Friday, from noon to 2 p.m., and then it’ll be open to the general public from 2-6 p.m.
St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, marks the 8th year in business for Traci Morrow at Quincy Thrift on Main Street next to the Pizza Factory. To celebrate the occasion, Traci Downey of Sweet Surprises is supplying lots of “green” treats Quincy Thrift’s customers throughout the day. They will also have a wheel of fortune to spin for discounts and prizes.
Lucky leprechaun, lucky shopper
Carol Spicer received an additional 25 percent off her purchases at Lassen Gift Co. in Chester by finding the Lucky Leprechaun hidden in the store. Owner Sharon Henry said as part of her “March Madness” promotion, each week she finds a new place to hide the little fella waiting for a shopper to claim the prize.
Hunger campaign huge success
Evergreen Market’s participation in the Help Fight Hunger for the Holidays campaign turned out to be a huge success. Storeowner Ken Tucker said his Greenville store, along with six other IGA stores in Washington, gave their respective food banks a bounty of food products worth more than $40,000 donated by their unselfish shoppers during the drive.
Annual march food drive
Marilyn Hoffman and the gang at Curves in East Quincy are once again conducting their annual food drive to benefit our local food bank(s). †Through March if you donate a bag of non-perishable food Marilyn will waive the normal $75 membership enrollment fee. †Last year, Marilyn said it was a huge success with more than 700 pounds of food collected. †

Becky Weatherson and Sharon Geney were at a gift show in San Francisco recently buying yet more merchandise for their unique Chester store, Good Vibrations. Inside the historical Stover Building, you will now find a new assortment of functional recycled art glassware and “gifts of inspiration” added to already diverse inventory of “organic and earth-friendly products for conscious living.” The store carries art, home dÈcor, jewelry, books, CDs and homeopathy products as well. Dental assistant’s third year
Linda Rutherford CDA,RDA is pleased to celebrate her third year working at the dental offices of Dr. Greg Sawyer in East Quincy. Linda has been a practicing dental assistant for 36 years and a registered dental assistant for 34 of those years. When she isn’t in the office or attending continuing educational classes, Linda volunteers her time for the Healthy Smiles program applying fluoride varnish and giving oral hygiene instructions at the elementary schools.
