At their board meeting April 1, the Plumas District Hospital board unanimously adopted a Resolution calling for an election on the Tax Limitation Initiative.
The board either had to adopt the initiative as is, which would cap the Measure A tax at $50 per $100,000 of assessed house value, or else choose to go to election.
Further, they had to choose between a mail ballot election, which would take place on August 31, 2010 or the general election on Novemeber 2.
Board director, Valerie Flanigan opened discussion by saying that information on whether the hospital would be approved for a low interest USDA loan wouldn’t be available until September 2010. PDH has begun the process leading up to application.
She reasoned that the board should wait until the November 2 general election so that voters had as much information as possible on other funding sources, such as the low interest USDA loan. The rest of the board agreed.
Tax cap proponents voiced their opinion that the board should adopt the Initiative and not wait for an election.
