A 27-year-old Reno resident, identified to KOLO TV as Derek Cahoon, drowned in the Indian Falls area Sunday, April 18. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office reported the young man was swept downstream while swimming and couldn’t be located by friends accompanying him.
The release added that on Monday a kayaker located a body near the “Shoo-Fly” bridge just south of Indian Falls.”
Sheriff Greg Hagwood cautioned the public against swimming in the rivers this time of year due to high water levels and cold temperatures. He added that anyone who chose to swim should wear a life jacket.
