New principal selected for Greenville High School

Plumas Unified School District announced Thursday, May 13, that it had hired James Lake Jr. as the new principal for Greenville High School.

“I’m thrilled,” said school board member Jonathan Kusel. “He knows the area and has demonstrated an understanding of the issues. He was truly the top candidate. We’re excited to have him”

Lake is currently an assistant principal at Beyer High School in Modesto City Schools. He began his career in education administration during 2007, as assistant principal of Patterson High School in the Patterson Joint Unified School District. Lake was previously a teacher at Our Lady of Miracles Elementary School in Gustine, Calif.

He was one of two finalists recommended by staff and community for the GHS position. According to a press release from PUSD, Lake emerged as the top candidate based on his ability to reach out and get involved with students and parents in his community.

Lake has ties to Plumas County. He spent his sophomore year as a student at GHS. His father, James Lake Sr., served as principal of GHS in 1988 – 89.

Kusel praised Lake’s “personal commitment to education,” noting he is working on a Ph.D. in education.
