Opportunity to Comment
The District Ranger of the Mt. Hough Ranger District is seeking public input on three proposed mining operations: two mining Plans of Operations and one Mineral Materials Sale Contract.
The first Plan of Operations would allow the proponent to conduct mining activities on claims located on National Forest System (NFS) lands west of Greenville, CA, in T26N, R9E, Section 4. This operation would involve excavation and processing on site of a 400 ft section of NFS road 26N81. The road may be closed for 30 days or longer for processing and road restoration. This plan would be valid for a period of one (1) year. Occupancy on the claim would be in self-contained recreational vehicles throughout the operating period.
The second Plan of Operations is for continued underground exploration on an existing claim located west of Taylor Lake, in T27N, R11E, Sections 27 and 34. This operation includes pick & shovel exploration, and maintenance of an existing road, gate, and tool shed.
The Mineral Materials Contract is for extraction and removal of 20 tons of decorative rock from an existing excavation site southwest of Antelope Lake in T26N, R12E, Section 4. The sale would be at fair market value. It is possible additional contracts would be issued if more material is present in this outcropping. Forest Service regulations require this type of sale to be offered to other interested parties. This public notice is intended to discover if any other parties are interested in purchasing the material.
This comment period is intended to provide those interested or affected by these proposals an opportunity to make their concerns known prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official. These decisions are not subject to appeal.
