Frenchman Lake

  Fishing has been great this past week with shore fishing between Big Cove and Turkey Point remaining excellent for rainbow trout. Fishermen have been catching their limit, weighing 1 to 2 pounds and 15 to 20 inches in length, using nightcrawlers, Dick Nites, and Powerbait in rainbow or chartreuse.

  Trolling is picking up near the channels and around Lunker’s Point.

Lake Davis

As of 6/25/10, the fishing at lake Davis has been a little bit better since they stocked it for the fishing derby. Shore fishing is hit and miss but not as bad as before. The occasional, above average fish is the score for bait. The people are pulling good size catfish out of fairview using nightcrawlers. Trolling is still good. The #2 sockeye slammer fire tiger, #2 Needlefish red dot frog and Dicknite are the best lures. The fly fisherman are still anticipating the damsel hatch, which should help the fishing for them. The lake temp is at 63-64 degrees and is at 68% capacity.

Lake Almanor

  For bank fishing, try fishing the jetties in Prattville and the usual Hamilton Branch with SW10 Kastmasters or night crawlers and Powerbait. Crickets are working also with browns and rainbows of decent size. The dam might be a good spot.

  For boat fishing, there are good reports from trollers taking fish with red/gold Speedy shiners and various Rapalas. Add carp spit and go down 15 to 30 feet along the east or west shores for good size browns and rainbows.

  There have been many excellent reports by the dam for salmon with anchovy tails (sardines) with a size #1 or #2 octopus hook a few cranks off the bottom. Smallmouth is picking up as the weather improves at the points and dropoffs all around the lake with various rubber worms and maybe a brush hog. Crickets on a size 10 baitholder with 3/0 split shot 12” from your hook.

  For fly fishing at Hamilton Branch, use Woolly Buggers, at Almanor, try Pond smelt and caddis, at Deer Creek, Cooper Johns, at Butt Lake, streamer patterns and at Warner, Feather River, use stoneflies. The hex hatch should start any day. On the rivers and streams, try crickets, salmon eggs, worms and a Panther Martin. Deer Creek was planted last week.

  Eagle Lake has had some good reports-try Eagle’s Nest or Youth Cam with a bobber and a nightcrawlers. On Butt Lake, the good spot by the powerhouse is now open and the last report was that the powerhouse is not running. Smallmouth bass is the ticket.
