Greenville resident Frederik Schoordyk, 86, was killed Monday, Aug. 16, when his 2005 PT Cruiser left the roadway and struck a guardrail.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Schoordyk was traveling southbound on SR-89 north of Dixie Canyon Road at an undetermined speed at 5:55 a.m.     For an unknown reason, the vehicle traveled off the highway and onto the west gravel shoulder, and then back onto and across the roadway, where it ultimately hit a guardrail on the east shoulder.

Schoordyk was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Anyone who may have seen the accident is encouraged to call the CHP at 283-1100.
