Susan Kaiser, 37, drowned while kayaking in the Feather River Canyon the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 29.
The Plumas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, CalFire Swift Water Rescue, U.S. Forest Service, Butte County Fire, California Highway Patrol Air Operations and Plumas District Hospital were dispatched to an area west of the Bucks Creek Power House for a possible rescue.
According to a press release, PCSO dispatch received a call reporting someone had a foot caught under a rock in the river.
Responders on their way to the scene were told the victim had been under the water for some time and bystanders had subsequently freed her.
"We were also notified that lifesaving efforts were being taken to revive the victim," the release added.
The release indicated PDH personnel on scene were taken across the river by local kayakers and continued lifesaving efforts for more than an hour, "but the victim never regained consciousness."
The case is still under investigation by the PCSO's coroner division.
