80 YEARS AGO... 1930

Three men were arrested Tuesday night for burglarizing the store of L.B. Austin at Greenville, removing several slot machines, punchboards and their prizes, tobacco and other merchandise. Continuing on to Portola, they forced an entrance to the Northside Garage and helped themselves to merchandise. Sheriff Braden and deputies nabbed them in Chilcoot.

50 YEARS AGO... 1940

The California State Department of Water Resources in Sacramento announced today that unexpected geological conditions discovered by the contractor constructing the Frenchman Dam in northeast Plumas County will not be completed until next year. It was previously planned to have the dam completed this fall.

30 YEARS AGO... 1980

Darlene Johnson, Plumas County's 1980 Sweetheart of the Mountains placed in the top ten finalists of the 49 contestants competing at the Maid of California pagaent last month.

10 YEARS AGO... 2000

Six candidates are on the November ballot for the Plumas County Supervisorial race: District 1 Supervisor incumbent Fran Roudebush is challenged by B.J. Pearson, District 2 Supervisor incumbent Robert Meacher is challenged Nathan Tucker and District 4 Supervisor incumbent Phil Bresciani is challenged by Ken Nelson. The Plumas County Superior Court Judge position sees Superior Court Judge Garrett Olney up against Craig Settlemire.
