Golf Report for the week of 9/29/2010

Lake Almanor

It was a beautiful, sunny day for the annual "Invite Your Mate" tournament. The format was six holes alternate shots, six holes scramble, and six holes best ball; 21 couples participated.

The first-place winner was the team of Linda and Gary Kluge; second place was Joyce and Ben Ayres; third place was Deanie and Rich Ryerson; fourth place was Julie and Bill Azevedo; fifth place went to Sharyn and Nick Belkofer; sixth place was Shirley Friedrichs and Scott Kazan and seventh place was Sharon and Larry Auge.

Lunch followed at the clubhouse.

Next week, Sept. 30, will be the last day of weekly tournament play, however, play will continue through October as long as weather permits. Membership for 2011 is now due.

 

Plumas Pines Women

Tuesday, Sept. 14, the format was Partners Eclectic, or Better Ball, in which a twosome counted only the better ball score on every hole. No flights were created as it was a net format.

Coming in first was the team of Joni Gerbasi and Shirley Agnos, whose score totaled 62. Second place went to the team of Renee Walker and her guest Shann Eberle, who scored a 66, and third place winners were Jennifer Zumbro and Mary Peters, with a score of 67. There were two chip-ins made by Cindy Jurkovich and Joni Gerbasi.

 

Whitehawk Ranch Ladies

Sept. 14 was the final qualifying day for the Whitehawk Ranch Ladies' "Ace of Aces" competition. The low gross qualifier was Judy Miller with an 84 and the low net qualifier was Chris Hyatt with a 72.

Prior qualifying ladies included: Lynn Smith, Marcia Zeigler, Laurie McKenzie and Cassie McNamara for low gross and for low net, the other qualifying players are Christy Randall, Arline Simpson and Denise Stein.

The Ace of Aces finale will be p Tuesday, Sept. 28, during which only one low gross and one low net player will win.

The game played on the final qualifying round was an individual low net game, "Three Blind Mice."

The winner in play that day was Judy Miller with a low net of 51 ... second place went to Denise Stein with a low net of 58 ... and Chris Hyatt came in third with a low net of 59.

The Whitehawk ladies will next play their Club Championship/Captains' Cup tournament Sept. 29 – 30 ...t wo days of play to determine the gross club champion and the net captains cup winner.

The Whitehawk Ranch ladies have new Club Champions for gross and net. The ladies played in a back-to-back two-day stroke tournament and Marcia Zeigler came out the winner with a low gross of 161.

This is Marcia's second consecutive Club Championship victory — congratulations, Marcia!

Della Miller is the Captains' Cup low net winner with a 141 — congratulations, Della! In gross play, second place goes to Patty McNamara with a 164 and third place to Lynn Smith with a 170.

The net race was much closer, with Denise Stein placing second just one stroke back with a 142 and another one stroke back was Diane Romig for third with a 143.

After the round, all the participants enjoyed some cake and champagne on the deck to celebrate their good play.

The winning ladies will be awarded crystal trophies and cash prizes at the annual awards luncheon Oct. 5, at The Lodge at Whitehawk.

Whitehawk members wrapped up their fun couples events for the season with their annual Sadie Hawkins tournament Thursday, Sept. 24. Ten couples split up to play with someone else's partner and they played an alternate shot net game.

The team of Arline Simpson and Charlie Cummings won the fun nine-hole event, each taking home a nice new bottle of Whitehawk Zinfandel.

 

Mt. Huff

Wednesday Morning Scramble

A good turnout of golfers came for the Wednesday morning scramble at Mt. Huff Golf Course Wednesday, Sept. 22.

The first place team members were: Gary Hughes, Mike Ingle, and Mike Chelotti.

In second place were team members Loren Lindner, Ralph Cote, and Al Brubaker.

Closest to the pin winner was Ralph Cote with the Chip-In competition in a tie with Mike Chelotti and Gary Hughes winning.

 

Thursday Night Scramble

The Thursday Night Scramble Sept. 23 brought out six teams of intrepid golfers. We had a three-way tie at five under between the team of Gary Metzdorf, Jeff Stevens, Leaf Van Pelt and Donny Guess, and the team of Ken George, Mike Beatty, Lynn McClellan and Gary McClellan, and the team of Robert Turcotte, Wally Eshleman, Bill McRoberts and Steve Ross, the Metzdorf, Stevens, Van Pelt, Donny Guess team came in first and second was won by the team of George, Beatty, McClellan and McClellan. Gary McClellan put the ball closest to the pin and Darel Joseph won longest drive.

We are having the final Scramble Thursday Sept. 30, there may be a few surprises and we would love to have.

Our Big 6 tournament is Oct. 2 and it is always a crowd pleaser. Oct. 10, we are having a 10-10-10 Tournament with more details to fall.

We will we open year round, weather permitting, so it is never to late to join us for some fun.

 

Graeagle Meadows Women

Sept. 23, the Graeagle Meadows Women's Golf Club played the final qualifying round of its Ace of Aces competition. Next week all qualifiers will compete for the Ace of Aces championship.

The low gross score winner over the field was Ann Pratt, with Lorraine Cornish winning for low net.

In the first flight, Priscilla Piper had the low gross score. Cheryl Brennan had the first place low net score, with Cathy Churchill taking second place.

Lois Childress won low gross in the second flight. Judy Porep-Lullo won for low net score with Gail Arterburn taking second place.
