High Sierra Community -Youth Orchestra auditions start
The High Sierra Community-Youth Orchestra is rosining bows and blowing horns to invite you to join its musical family.
The Fall 2010/Winter 2011 season starts Wednesday, Oct. 6. Rehearsals will be held at the Quincy Junior-Senior High School band room Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m. every week.
Interested musicians are encouraged to attend the first few rehearsals so they can be "auditioned" and placed into appropriate chairs within the orchestra. All instrumentalists are invited. The orchestra is currently seeking: violins, violas, cellos, basses, flutes, clarinets, oboes, bassoons, trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas and percussionists. All intermediate to advanced musicians, fifth- to 12th-grade students, and adults are welcome to attend.
The High Sierra Community Youth Orchestra is sponsored by the Central Plumas Recreation District and Face the Music Studio. The orchestra is directed by Johnene McDonald, who is also the founder of the orchestra and the Quincy Stringed Instrument program. The Quincy Stringed Instrument Program was founded in January 1987 through a grant from Plumas Arts and sponsorship of the Central Plumas Recreation District.
The orchestra's first concert will be at the county courthouse in December for the annual county potluck. The orchestra will also perform the first Sunday of May 2011 for the eighth annual spring concert.
"If you are a closet musician and haven't played your instrument for years but are interested in playing again, this is an excellent opportunity to dust off your horn and join an enthusiastic group of friendly musicians," said McDonald.
Those interested in attending the rehearsals or who have questions can contact Johnene Mc Donald at 283-1471.
