League hosts host of forums

The League of Women Voters will host the candidates for U.S. Congressional District 4 in a debate Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall Theatre.

There are three candidates running for the 4th District seat in Congress: Republican incumbent Tom McClintock, Democrat Clint Curtis and Independent Ben Emery. Each candidate has been invited.

This debate is an opportunity for Plumas County residents to hear what the candidates have to say, how they respond to questions and how they respond to each other. It is also an opportunity to reinforce civil discourse by practicing it.

Feather River College students from professor Katie Desmond's political science classes will be present, shadowing LWV members in the fundamental jobs of debate management.

Voter registration will be available before and after the event. The last day to register for the general election is Oct. 18.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization for women and men that encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The group does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate.

The League will hold one other forum:

City council candidates' forum: Portola, Oct. 12, 7 p.m., Portola branch library

Incumbents Curt McBride and John Larrieu and challenger Juliana Mark will answer voters' questions.
